이번 세계 여성의 날을 맞아, 우리는 젠더 정의가 우리 세계의 정의를 위한 더 넓은 투쟁과 분리될 수 없다는 점을 거듭 밝힌다.
세계 각지에서 여성과 성소수자는 땅과 몸, 공동체를 착취하는 체제에 맞서 저항하고 있다. 이 체제는 우연히 만들어진 것이 아니라, 가부장제, 군사주의, 인종주의, 식민주의의 유산, 기업 권력, 제국주의에 뿌리를 두고 있다. 이는 누가 자원을 통제하는지, 누가 위기의 부담을 떠안는지, 그리고 누구의 삶이 중요하지 않은 것으로 취급되는지를 결정한다.
오늘 국제사회가 모든 여성과 소녀를 위한 권리, 정의, 행동을 요구하며 세계 여성의 날을 기념하는 가운데, 우리는 진정한 정의가 실현되기 위해서는 억압을 재생산하는 구조적 권력에 맞서는 것이 필요하다는 점을 분명히 한다.
전 세계 곳곳에서 우리는 국제사회가 사실상 침묵으로 공모하는 가운데, 새로운 형태의 제국주의와 식민주의가 되살아나며, 각 지역의 다양한 사람들에게 영향을 미치고 있는 현실을 목격하고 있다. 국제법의 붕괴는 가장 취약한 사람들에게 큰 영향을 미치며,여성, 흑인 여성, 트랜스젠더, 젠더 다양성을 지닌 사람들이 가장 큰 대가를 치르게 된다.
오랜 투쟁을 통해 쟁취해 온 권리들이 극우 세력의 부상과 시민사회 활동의 제약, 그리고 여성의 몸을 통제하고 페미니스트의 목소리를 침묵시키며 연대와 조직을 약화시키려는 퇴행적 의제들에 의해 침식되고 있다.
여성들은 환경 파괴와 분쟁, 강제 이주, 경제적 불평등의 영향을 가장 크게 받는 집단 중 하나일 뿐 아니라, 동시에 저항의 최전선에 서 있다. 땅과 물을 지키는 투쟁에서부터 공동체를 위기 속에서도 지탱하고 모든 형태의 폭력에 맞서는 싸움에 이르기까지, 여성 환경수호자들과 풀뿌리 활동가들은 존엄, 안전, 생존, 그리고 체제 변화를 향한 길을 계속해서 만들어가고 있다.
환경 파괴는 젠더 불평등을 더욱 심화시킨다. 생태계가 파괴될 때 물을 구하기 위해 더 먼 거리를 이동해야 하고, 식량을 확보하기 위해 더 큰 어려움을 겪으며, 강제 이주와 빈곤의 충격을 감당해야 하는 사람들은 대부분 여성이다. 지역이 군사화되거나 착취될 때, 여성의 몸과 생계는 위험에 놓인다. 경제가 자원 착취와 불평등에 기반할 때, 돌봄 노동은 늘어나지만 여성들의 권리는 축소된다.
정의로운 미래는 이러한 서로 얽혀 있는 억압의 체제를 해체하는 것에서 시작된다. 안전과 평등을 위한 페미니스트 투쟁은 기후정의, 토지권, 자기결정권, 경제정의를 위한 운동과 분리될 수 없다. 젠더 정의 없이 환경정의는 없으며, 착취와 폭력을 유지시키는 세계적 구조에 맞서지 않는 한 젠더 정의 역시 실현될 수 없다.
오늘 우리는 모든 형태의 억압에 맞서 싸우는 여성, 젠더 다양성을 지닌 사람들 및 공동체와 연대한다. 우리는 생명과 영토, 공동의 권리를 지키기 위해 위험을 감수하며 싸우고 있는 이들의 용기에 경의를 표한다. 그들의 리더십은 정의가 위로부터 주어지는 것이 아니라, 집단적 투쟁을 통해 만들어지는 것임을 다시 한 번 일깨운다.
우리는 정부와 국제기구가 다음과 같은 구체적인 조치를 취할 것을 촉구한다.
- 여성과 젠더 다양성을 지닌 환경수호자들을 보호하고 인권을 보장하라
- 군사화와 토지 수탈, 집단학살을 부추기는 정책을 중단하라
- 토지와 자원에 대한 접근을 보장하고 모든 형태의 불평등과 구조적 폭력을 해결하기 위한 공공정책을 마련하라
- 보편적 돌봄 체계와 공공서비스에 투자하라
- 여성과 주변화된 공동체에 대한 폭력에 대해 책임 규명과 정의 실현을 보장하라
이번 세계 여성의 날을 맞아 우리는 연대와 사회정의, 경제정의, 젠더 정의, 환경정의에 기반한 세계를 만들어가기 위한 우리의 약속을 다시 한 번 다짐한다.
젠더 정의를 위한 투쟁은 곧 생명을 위한 투쟁이며, 우리는 이 투쟁을 앞으로도 함께 이어갈 것이다.

We defend life, land and dignity, and through our struggles, another world becomes possible
On this International Women’s Day, we reaffirm that gender justice cannot be separated from the broader struggle for justice in our world.
Across regions, women and marginalised gender are resisting systems that exploit land, bodies and communities. These systems are not accidental; they are rooted in patriarchy, militarism, racism, colonial legacies, corporate power, and imperialism. They shape who controls resources, who bears the burden of crisis, and whose lives are treated as unessential.
Today, as the global community marks International Women’s Day under the call for rights, justice, and action for all women and girls, we recognise that meaningful justice requires confronting the structural forces that reproduce oppressions.
Around the world, we are witnessing the emergence of renewed forms of imperialism and colonialism that are affecting different peoples in different regions with the complicit silence of the international community. The destruction of international law impacts the most vulnerable populations, where women, black women, transgender, and gender diverse people pay the highest price.
Hard-won rights are being eroded by extreme right forces, shrinking civic space, and regressive agendas that seek to control women’s bodies, silence feminist voices, and weaken collective organising.
Women are not only among those most affected by environmental destruction, conflict, displacement, and economic injustice; they are also at the forefront of resistance. From defending land and water to sustaining communities through crisis, to challenging violence in all its forms, women environmental defenders and grassroots activists continue to build pathways toward dignity, safety, survival and system change.
Environmental devastation deepens gender injustice. When ecosystems are destroyed, it is often women who must travel further for water, struggle to secure food, and absorb the shocks of displacement and poverty. When territories are militarised or exploited, women’s bodies and livelihoods are placed at risk. When economies are shaped by extraction and inequality, care work expands while rights shrink.
A just future requires dismantling these interconnected systems of oppression. Feminist struggles for safety and equality are inseparable from movements for climate justice, land rights, self-determination and economic justice. There can be no environmental justice without gender justice, and no gender justice without confronting the global structures that sustain exploitation and violence.
On this day, we stand in solidarity with women, gender-diverse people and communities resisting oppression in all its forms. We honour the courage of those defending life, territory, and collective rights, often at great risk. Their leadership reminds us that justice is not granted from above; it is built through collective struggle.
We call on governments and international institutions to take concrete steps to:
- Protect women and gender-diverse environmental defenders and uphold human rights;
- End policies that fuel militarisation, dispossession, and genocide;
- Guarantee access to land, resources, and public policies that address inequalities and systemic violence in all its forms;
- Invest in universal care and public services;
- Ensure accountability and justice for violence against women and marginalised communities.
This International Women’s Day, we recommit to building a world grounded in solidarity, social, economic, gender and environmental justice.
The struggle for gender justice is inseparable from the struggle for life itself, and it is a struggle we will continue together.
